University Of Nairobi Seals $2 billion Deal For Chinese Learning Centre

The University of Nairobi will construct a KSh2 billion (UGX 70 billion) building that will serve as an institute for Chinese language and culture.

The complex will be fianced by the government of China through the Confucius Institute. It will house lecture halls, offices and a hall of residence for students.

The Confucius Institute is an education agency that promotes Chinese language and culture in overseas countries. This will be the second of its kind in East Africa, following Makerere University‘s Confucius Institute which launched in 2014.

Construction commences March 2017 and will wrap up in a space of 18 months.

The vice-chancellor Prof Peter Mbithi signed an implementation agreement with regards to the construction of the state-of-the-art Confucius Institute Building at the University of Nairobi on Friday.
