Mbarara University of Science and Technology | MUST is a public university accredited by the National Council for Higher Education in Uganda. Over the years it has won acclaimed national and international recognition for best practices in outreach and community relations for produces the best development workers and health care professionals. With approximately 700 students and more than 400 faculty and staff members, Mbarara University of Science & Technology (MUST) is the country’s second public university. The University currently has one campus which is located close to down town Mbarara, on the banks of the scenic meandering Rwizi River a tributary of Lake Victoria in Mbarara Municipality along the Mbarara Kabale highway, approximately 178 miles (286 kilometers), southwest of Kampala, the capital city of Uganda.

The University Library is at the centre of the Universitys academic and research programs. The library has a sitting capacity of 700 seats. Information and Computing services, having nine computer rooms spread, throughout the university campus, are accessed by Students and staff alike via a managed computer network. Mbarara University of Science and Technology | MUST is a thriving residential campus and community where Students live in villages. On campus are two halls of residence popularly referred to as the Gents and Ladies flats. The rest of the student population live around the University campus in private but accredited hostel facilities by the Dean of Students office in collaboration with the Mbarara District Police station. Extra Curricular activities, professional student associations and clubs, performances, forums and sports and games beckon students as well as the communities around the University.
The university teaching hospital is Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, a 300-bed public hospital that serves as the referral hospital for the districts of: Mbarara, Bushenyi, Ntungamo, Kiruhura, Ibanda and Isingiro.
