Early 1980’s – A group of local Anglican women and men recognize the need for a locally based institute that is affordable and accessible to the growing rural youth population in the Bushenyi District of Western Uganda. West Ankole Diocese resolves to start a university in 2002 at Kabwohe Hill which would be named Ankole Western University.
The Academic programs offered at Ankole Western Institute of Science & Technology (AWIST) include the following;
Diploma courses: Diploma in Primary Education, Diploma in Animal Health & Production, Diploma in Agribusiness, Diploma in Business Administration, Diploma in Guidance and Counseling, Diploma in Development Studies, Diploma in Social Work and Social Administration, Diploma in Information Technology, Diploma in Computer Science and Diploma in Secretarial studies.
Certificate course: Ankole Western University certificate courses are; Certificate in Agribusiness, Certificate in Business Administration, Certificate in Nursery Education, Certificate in Computer Science, and a Certificate in Computer Applications.
Ankole Western University is licensed by the government of Uganda to award diplomas and certificates. They have more than 700 students enrolled in education, business administration, agribusiness, animal health and production, guidance and counseling, development studies, and social work and social administration programs.
