St.Joseph Girls Primary school dates back to 1904. This was soon after the arrival of six Franciscan Sisters under the able leadership of the Late Mother Kevin Kearney foundress of the Little Sisters of St. Francis.
Their arrival made Nsambya Hill shine as if set on a lamp stand for all to see.The new arrivals soon identified two of the most pressing needs of Baganda and Ugandans at Large.Indeed, all Ugandans badly needed standardised Medical Care and Formal Education.
While sister Kevin got busy attending to hundreds of patients under a mango tree, Mother Paul was busy receiving would be scholars to the first girls school on the Hill, thus becoming the first Headmistress of St. Joseph. The first classroom was an open air space under the heat of African sun. Pupils first learnt how to write on sand and gradually upgraded to to slates and copybooks.
Academics
St. Joseph boasts of producing the likes of Prof. Nambooze , the first woman Doctor in Uganda and many other outstanding personalities. Although totally dedicated to the uplifting of the Girl child, St. Joseph has over the years provided opening for a few boys. Needless to say , that such inclusiveness nurtured a vocation to priesthood in the person of Rev. Fr. Oscar Mary Ssuuna
