Named for the 7 hills that Kampala is built upon, 7 Hills International School-Kampala was founded by a group of like-minded parents, self named the ‘Dream Team’, who were looking for a secondary school with the quality of teaching and care that they wanted for their children. These dedicated parents created 7 Hills International School-Kampala in order to provide an affordable International Secondary education that develops the whole child – intellectually, emotionally and physically. A school that provides a safe and stimulating environment for students, with a project-based, interdisciplinary approach to learning. Our focus is to offer students an equally rigorous Academic, Fine Arts, and Sports program.
7 Hills International School-Kampala welcomed it’s first class, Years 7 and 8 in August 2017, with the maximum of 20 students per class. As a non-profit NGO, 7 Hills International School-Kampala will continually re-invest its profits into the school, to allow for its growth. Starting with the addition of Yr 9 in 2018, Yr 10 and Yr 11 in 2019, and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program for Yr 12 and Yr 13 in 2021. By 2023, 7 Hills International School-Kampala will have housed on its own campus secondary years 7 through 13.
7 Hills International School has a Mission “To inspire our children to reach their full potential by fostering curiosity and an interest in learning, awakening their minds and illuminating their world”. and a Vision “To create an affordable International secondary school with a high standard of education where children learn through practical work and project-based learning. To develop our students’ moral and intellectual capacity, and to encourage creativity and adaptability”. under the Aim “To provide an education that is broad, balanced, and challenging, with an emphasis on developing strong connections to our host country, Uganda”.
The International Middle Years Curriculum
For this forward-looking school, the 7 Hills Dream Team adopted the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC) that is specifically designed for 11-14 year-old secondary school students. The IMYC is a continuation of the very popular and successful IPC, (International Primary Curriculum), which is offered by many international primary schools in Kampala. The curriculum framework provides a fun and challenging environment for teenagers to help develop knowledge, critical thinking and strong moral values. The IMYC is designed to encourage the highest achievement of every student, by defining the knowledge, understanding, and skills that students should acquire during the Middle Years. 7 Hills International School is the first school in Uganda to offer the IMYC, to provide an equally rigorous academic, fine arts, and sports program.
Technology is fully integrated into the curriculum. Teachers and students use Google Classroom which enables students to access lesson resources and complete assignments outside of school. Each student has access to a laptop and a personal kindle. Robotics is taught as part of the Science curriculum.
7 Hills International School is conveniently located across from and has full access to Lugogo Stadium and MTN Arena, one of the best-equipped sports facilities in Kampala including Cricket, Field Hockey, Lawn Tennis, Lacrosse, Basketball, Boxing, Netball, Football, Badminton, Volleyball and a Dance Studio accompanied by a resident choreographer and Yoga instructor. Swimming classes are taken at Africana Hotel and students are encouraged to take up golf at the Kampala Golf Club.
The Elite Basketball Player Development sports camp is held every Saturday from 8:30am-12:00n at the MTN Arena/Lugogo In-door Stadium, Kololo.
