Background:

X-Street Uganda Basketball Academy was started by Paul Okongo assisted by Agaba Kenneth in 2012 September. The group’s mission was to support street children through basketball engaging to fight despair and self pity since sport has the power to inspire and unite people the way nothing else can.

In 2013, The Academy was a fully registered community based organization working with at risk young people in the Walukuba-Masese areas. It runs three programs which are moving on progressively well that is; Sports program spear headed by basketball, the life skills and the Art program that involves painting, dancing and a beads project that will be launched soon.

Sports Programs.

Girls’ football: X-Street Uganda Basketball Academy Girls football project is focused on empowerment through sports and education. Thereby mainstreaming gender and giving opportunity for sports scholarships that will support their education.

Basketball 4 Life Projects: “Basketball for life” has always been our slogan for the sport and every time we play, we are playing under a certain theme. The first theme was advocating against drug abuse amongst children under the theme “A drug free child Community”. The new theme “I know my right as a child” stands to empower our young people with knowledge on their basic rights as children and equip them with skills on how to handle violation of these rights.

Life Skill Program; X-Street Uganda Basketball Academy has developed a unique Life skills program that is more engaging and keeps their young stars involved. X-Street Uganda Basketball Academy has mixed it with fun and games and nothing for sure can beat this combination for sure. The academy covers a variety of topics in this program which include; reproductive health, creative thinking, self esteem, career guidance, farming, entrepreneurship, livelihood, rights, the law and so much more.

Get involved: With their wide range of running projects, X-Street Uganda Basketball Academy needs people with interest in what they do to join us in supporting child and community development.
