Uganda Technical College Bushenyi is a recognized public tertiary institution under the Ministry of Education and Sports under the direct supervision of the department of Business Technical Vocational Education and Training (BTVET). It is governed under the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001.

Uganda Technical College Bushenyi is located 50km along the Mbarara-Kasese highway in the district of Bushenyi. Its nearest town is Bushenyi which is a distance of about eight kilometers away.

History: Uganda Technical College Bushenyi, referred to as “The College”, was founded in 1956 as Kahaya Memorial Rural Trade School by the then Ankole Kingdom Government. It was enrolling the then primary six leavers to train in Carpentry and Joinery and Bricklaying. Later in 1958, courses that included Leather turning and shoe making, and pottery and ceramics were introduced. In 1974, Uganda Technical College Bushenyi was elevated to Kahaya Technical School and elevated to Bushenyi technical institute in 1982 with a standard entry requirement of O’ level. In 1984, it was further elevated to a Technical College and named Uganda Technical College Bushenyi admitting both “O” and “A” level students.

Vision: Uganda Technical College Bushenyi vision is to be leading in the training of Technicians, Scientists and Engineers.

Mission: Uganda Technical College Bushenyi mission is to enable a trainee acquire knowledge and skills in science and technology aimed at producing a competent graduate who contributes towards individual and national development in a changing world of work.

Programs: Uganda Technical College Bushenyi currently runs both Ordinary/Higher National Diploma courses. They are examined by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) and Uganda Business Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB). The programs/ courses are:

Courses at Higher Diploma level: Higher National Diploma in Civil and Building Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

Ordinary/ National Diplomas in: Civil and Building Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Water Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Drawing and Draughtsman ship, Industrial Ceramics and Computer Science and Information Technology (DCS)

Courses at Certificate Level: Certificate in Technical Teacher Education (CTTE) and Certificate in Computer Applications (short course).

One principal pass from either Mathematics or Physics and two subsidiary passes obtained at the same sitting at A’ level.
Advanced Craft certificate.
A degree in any physical Science course.

Higher National Diploma

An ordinary Diploma/National Diploma in the relevant field of study.

Enrolment: Uganda Technical College Bushenyi has a total enrollment of 514 students distributed as follows of which only 68 are female. Three hundred twenty (320) students are government supported while the rest are privately sponsored students.
