Uganda Petroleum Institute, Kigumba (UPIK) is a government aided tertiary Institution under the Ministry of Education and Sports. UPIK is mandated to train technicians in Oil and Gas operations and maintenance programmes.
The Institute was first established in 2009 by a Presidential Directive issued to the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES). The Institute was officially launched by His Excellency the President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, on the 3rd October 2012.

Co-curricular Activities
Students at Uganda Petroleum Institute, Kigumba (UPIK) engage in a number of both sports and academic extra curricular activities. The games include; Netball, Football, Basketball, volleyball and Athletics.
The academic extra curricular activities includes; Guild Council (GC)Activities, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) activities, Cultural Students’ activities and Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Activities.
Programmes
The Institute has the following courses; Diploma in Petroleum Engineering(DPE), Diploma in Upstream Petroleum Operations (DUPO) and Diploma in Downstream Petroleum Operations (DDPO) and many other courses are under development.
