Uganda Cooperative College Kigumba (UCCK) started as a training wing at Nsamizi in Mpigi District with the aim of meeting the manpower requirement of the cooperative Development Department, following the enhancement of the cooperative society’s ordinance of 1946 which gave the cooperatives power to do business. The trained staff were mandated ‘’to grow co-operatives’’ through promotion, inspection, auditing, member education and training.

In 1963, the wing was transferred from Nsamizi to Bukalasa as a full college but sharing the campus with Bukalasa Agricultural College. A new and independent campus was established at the present location –Kigumba in 1974 200 km north of Kampala city on Kampala Sudan highway.
