Kampala Film School  is a registered non-profit organization and since it was established in 2009 has trained a wealth of talented graduates, many of whom are now employed across East Africa’s rapidly expanding film and television industry.

At Kampala Film School, they teach all aspects of film production; from the initial idea generation, research and scripting, through to cinematography, sound, editing and post-production, all done through an incremental and methodical process.

The school ensures every student has mastered the necessary theoretical and practical skill before moving onto the more advanced level

Curriculum: Kampala Film School through a balance of theoretical studies and practical workshops, equips students with a broad knowledge and a full understanding of film-making, whilst allowing students to specialize in the area of their personal interest and to develop individual professional skills. Kampala Film School graduates leave the Film School and move into a variety of fields covering roles from directing to cinematography, editing and producing. The course is led by a team of international professionals, with extensive and current industry experience; this is supplemented by a range of local and visiting lecturers who conduct special workshops and tutorials.

Short courses: Kampala Film School runs a variety of short courses throughout the year, from scriptwriting to photography and everything in between.

]Entry requirements: Kampala Film School diploma course is open to both Ugandan and International applicants with: 5 credits at O-level and 2 principle passes at A-level, 5 credits at O-level, 1 principle pass and 2 subsidiaries at A-level, 5 credits at O-level, academic certificate from a recognized institution (training must be in a relevant field) and a completed application form and 2 passport size photos. To continue from the diploma to study on our degree course, a minimum of 60% overall pass is required.

Facilities: Located right on the shores of Lake Victoria, Kampala Film School is one of the best equipped film schools in East Africa with a growing collection of state of the art film making technology available to all of our students. Currently they have 6 editing suites, featuring the latest versions of Abode Premiere, Avid and Sony Vegas. Kampala Film School has a large range of HD cameras including the Super 35mm Sony NEX-FS100, a selection of Panasonic AG AC-90s, a Canon 6D digital SLR, a Canon XA1, and range of full size studio cameras and hand held Sony Handy cams. Kampala Film School collection of professional audio equipment, including mixers, solid start digital recorders and a variety of broadcast industry standard microphones, wireless radio units and booms.

Kampala Film School lighting department is fully stocked with professional Arri studio lights, LED lights, portable lightweight dedo lights and reporter lighting kits, the school also has a large studio space with a gallery, a voice over booth and sound editing suite, meaning that we really do have all the onsite facilities any budding filmmaker could possibly require. They also have a film library with over 2000 titles including a comprehensive collection of world cinema classics, African Cinema, documentary, avant-garde and experimental film.
