New Horizon School: As the name suggests the school aims to offer a new horizon to those whose outlook on the future is not bright. New Horizon started with a few Primary School classes but has now grown to a full Nursery School, Primary School and Secondary Vocational School.
History: In 2006 Noah’s Ark Children’s Ministry Uganda, started it’s own school for children from the Children’s Home and from the surrounding villages. That was New Horizon School.
Nursery: At New Horizon School, when the children reach three years of age they start at the Nursery School. Most Ugandan nursery schools start teaching the children how to read and write by endlessly repeating letters, words and numbers. New Horizon has a different approach; that is learning by playing.
Primary: When the children turn six years (or sometime a bit later because of their development) they start attending the Primary School. The Primary School is completed in 7 classes: P1 through P7.
Secondary: After Primary School the children start their secondary education on the Secondary Vocational School. The combination of secondary and vocational education is unique in Uganda and allows students gain first-hand experiences at various skills.

Together with a parents committee, Noah’s Ark selects the poorest families in the surrounding villages. Most of these families are broken: typically the father is not there and the mother is moving from job to job in other villages, so the care for the children comes down to the grandparents. Most of these caretakers grow vegetables is a small garden, but that is not enough to generate adequate income for the basic needs of their family. Paying for school fees is a far reach.
Children from these families are enrolled in New Horizon as sponsors from all over the world pay the school fees for them. Apart from quality education, the children also get a hot meal on every school day which, for a lot of children, is the only meal of the day. As a sponsor, you will receive an update two or three times a year containing the report card, photo, and drawings or letters from the child you sponsor.
