The foundations of the present education system can be traced back to the visionary efforts of Sir Sultan Mahomed Shah Aga Khan III. During the 20th century, he established over 200 schools, laying the groundwork for quality education. The first schools were founded around 1905 in Zanzibar, Gwadar (Pakistan), Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), and Mundra (India). Currently, the Aga Khan Schools operate on two campuses: Makerere and Kololo.

The Aga Khan Schools are committed to fostering a harmonious balance among academic excellence, sports, cultural activities, and community engagement. Students are encouraged to develop their intellectual curiosity and cultivate social consciousness. The school firmly believes that while acquiring knowledge is crucial, the true measure of a student’s education lies in their ability to analyze and explore areas beyond their current understanding.

By upholding these values, the Aga Khan Schools strive to provide a comprehensive and enriching education that prepares students to navigate the complexities of the world and contribute meaningfully to society.

Admissions

When considering the placement of a child, we take into account several factors, including the child’s date of birth to ensure they are of appropriate age, information provided by the parents regarding the child’s developmental history, relevant school reports from their previous school (if applicable), readiness tests for children joining Reception or Pre-primary classes, and any other pertinent information provided.

To initiate the application process, please visit the Admissions Office to pick up an application form. The completed form should be submitted along with the following documents:

  • A valid copy of the child’s birth certificate
  • A copy of the child’s immunization/vaccination card
  • Two recent passport photographs
  • A recent report card or leaving certificate from the previous school (for students applying to Reception class)

Once you have filled out and submitted the application form, a convenient date will be scheduled for an entrance assessment (only applicable for Reception/Pre-primary Class). The purpose of the entrance assessment is to assess the child’s current level of development and achievement. For KG/NR 1, 2 & 3 admissions, placement is based on the appropriate age for the respective class.

After the assessment is completed, the Admissions Officer will invite the parent to discuss the results of their child. If deemed appropriate, an admission letter, bank slips, and Nursery School regulations will be issued. Payment should be made within two weeks from the date of the admission letter. A copy of the School bank slip should be submitted to the Admissions Office after the payment has been made.

Once fees have been paid, the parent will be required to purchase a complete set of school uniforms.

On the starting date, the parent should accompany the child/student to the Admissions Office by 8:00am. The Admissions Officer will then introduce the parent and child to the Head Teacher of the Nursery School.”

Co-curricular

The school places great importance on fostering a well-rounded education by encouraging students to engage in a variety of extra-curricular activities. These activities aim to enhance their learning experience and develop valuable skills.

We offer a wide range of sports and extra-curricular activities, providing students with numerous opportunities for growth and exploration. Afternoon clubs and activities include Tae Kwon Do, Music, Dance and Drama, Sports, Ballet, Cookery, Computer Club, and Busy Bee, which involves engaging in various science experiments. These programs are optional for children aged between 4 and 6 years, allowing them to explore their interests and talents.

Additionally, we organize an annual Sports Day, which further promotes physical activity and healthy competition. Swimming and Physical Education are integral parts of our curriculum. While swimming is optional and incurs additional fees, weekly physical education lessons are mandatory for all students, ensuring they receive comprehensive physical development and education.
